Men’s Withrow Park Ball Hockey Fall 2010 Season – Registration Notice

Registration for the Men’s season begins on July 19th.

Individuals who played in the 2010 spring season may register beginning on July 19th at 8 am.

Individuals who played in the Fall 2009 season may register beginning on August 2nd, 8 am.

On August 9, 8 am registration is open to anyone.

There will be a waiting list, and some individuals from the waiting list may be added to the league a few weeks into the season.  To get on the waiting list you must complete the registration. If you are added part way into the season, your fee will be prorated.

Register early; last year there was not enough room for everyone who wanted to play.  But do not register before the date you are eligible (see dates of interest below), otherwise you will go to the bottom of the list.

Important Information – Read Before Registering

  • Please read the League’s Code of Conduct on the League website at www.withrowballhockey.net Please note that this is a non-contact, recreational league.  Aggressive play or inappropriate conduct towards players or officials will not be tolerated and will lead to suspension or expulsion from the league.
  • Sign up only if you will participate. The men’s league is very popular, with a waiting list of players hoping to get in.  And there is an attempt to create balanced teams on the basis of the experience and skill level of all participants.  If you sign up it is expected that you will play most games.  Last year some players missed many games.  This year, missing a significant number of games will lead to your expulsion from the league.  Do not sign up if you cannot commit to play.
  • The league is for men, 35 years of age and over.  (Players between the age of 30 and 35, who played in the league in 2009, are grandparented, and permitted to register.)  All games are played at the Withrow Park Rink (off Carlaw, south of Danforth Ave). Requests to be on the same team as other players will not be considered.
  • All games are played on Tuesday nights and some Thursdays (excluding make-up games, which will be scheduled on another night).  All games are played between 7:30 – 11:00 pm.
  • Season begins on September 7th, weather permitting, and continues until the end of October (including playoffs).
  • You will need a CSA approved hockey helmet (facemask recommended, but not mandatory) and ice hockey gloves.  Shin pads, elbow pads, and an athletic cup are also recommended but not mandatory.
  • Each player receives a mesh ball hockey sweater.

RECORD GAMES IN 2010
Posted by David Blyth
Monday, 28 June 2010

I was hesitant to release this information in case it put a "hex" on our ability to complete the season. The rain darn near did cause major problems but thanks to some luck and the cooperation of all the parents & players we managed to complete our season.

Thanks to the Mite parents & players who played in the rain on Saturday.

Thanks to everyone for juggling your schedules around as we struggled to complete Championship Day.

The most REGULAR SEASON YOUTH GAMES (this excludes Ladies & Mens Games) we ever had was in 2007, the first year of the Junior Division when we played 267 regular season games.

This year, 2010 we smashed that record with 312 games. Recod number of games were played by Tykes, Novies and Atoms.

If you add the 70 playoff & Championship Games we played 382 Youth division games in 2010.

It was a great year and we look forward to seeing everyone back in 2011.
