2026 Tryout and Tournament Dates and Times

Dear WPBHL Players and families

Withrow Park Ball Hockey League has a proud tradition of sending All-Star teams to the Provincial Championships every summer in every eligible division. In 2025, the WPBHL was very successful winning many medals across co-ed and girls divisions.

Tryouts

This year, the minors tryouts will follow our recently introduced format. Some Co-Ed age groups will be broken up by birth year for the first tryout.  Girls tryouts will be combined birth years. The second tryout will be invitation-only and will be a combined tryout where the A and B teams will be finalized.  Coaches will also be scouting house-league games.  If you are unable to make the tryout dates and still want to be considered, please reach out to the coach directly.

Co-Ed & Girls Teams

Girls can try out for both Co-Ed and Girls teams if they wish.

Commitment

Should a player be selected for an All-Star team, the expected commitment will be one practice per week, regular attendance at house league games and the ability to compete at every game over the provincial championship weekend.  Coaches will have the discretion to make exceptions on an as-required basis for their teams.

Practices

A practice schedule will be determined and communicated by the head coach once the All-Star teams are selected and will begin in May.

Fees

There will be no fees for attending the tryouts.

There will be a fee to play on an All-Star team that will cover practice rink rental, uniform, tournament fee, insurance and other costs.  This will be communicated once team budgets have been determined.

Uniforms

Uniforms will include a jersey, shorts and socks along with other team wear. These uniforms will be kept by the players and reworn if possible. Team managers will confirm uniform requirements once teams are selected.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between A & B or Gold & White teams?

In Co-Ed, there are A & B divisions. The A team is usually the older half of the age cohort and the most skilled minors.  B teams are most often minors.

In some girls divisions there is enough interest to field two teams. The Gold team is usually the highest-skilled team. The White team is often a development squad. These teams play in the same division in girls.

The final roster construction is always left up to the coaches.

I can’t attend either tryout. Can I still get selected for an All-Star team?

If it is impossible for a player to attend a tryout, the coach may agree to evaluate the player during house league play. This will be at the head coach’s discretion

I have a friend who is really good, but doesn’t play at Withrow. Can they play on the All-Star team?

WPBHL requires players to be registered and active in the house league program to be named to a Provincial All-Star team.  Exceptions may be made for goaltenders with the approval of the WPBHL president.

If I play on a team that is successful at the provincials, does that mean I get named to the team going to the national championships next year?

Co-Ed teams that finish in the top 4 and girls teams that finish in the top 3 of U14, U16 and U18 championships earn the WPBHL the right to send a team to compete in the National Championships the following year.  However, players on successful provincial championship teams are not guaranteed roster spots by virtue of finishing in the top 4 at the provincial championships.  Teams attending the national championships will be selected the following Spring.

My player wasn’t named to a team this year. Who do I talk to about this?

The decision of the head coaches on All-Star team rosters are final.
