WPBHL received a Jumpstart grant!

The Withrow Park Ball Hockey League is thrilled to announce it has been selected for a Jumpstart grant worth $3,375.

We’re so excited about this because it will help support two great programs we created to bring ball hockey to community members who traditionally face barriers to taking part in organized leagues.

Canadian Tire started Jumpstart in 2005 with a mission to help financially disadvantaged families. It operates under the belief that every child deserves the chance to play. After two years of Covid, getting kids out to play and socialize is more important than ever.

We’ll use our Jumpstart grant reduce enrolment fees for players in both the First Shots program and All-Abilities division. It will also be used to help fund much needed equipment purchases and staffing costs for those programs.

First Shots was created last year to bring ball hockey to families who have financial barriers to participation. WPBHL partners with Eastview Community Centre for the development of this program.

The WPBHL created the All-Abilities division two years ago for youth and adult players with physical or cognitive disabilities that prevent them from participating in the youth or adult divisions. We currently have two teams who play once a week.

The Jumpstart grant will help us expand both programs.
