FIRST STEPS TOWARDS 2021 SEASON FACE OFF

WPBHL BACK ON THE FLOOR (IN LIMITED NUMBERS) STARTING JUNE 28

We are very excited by the provincial government’s recent announcement about lifting pandemic restrictions. Between provincial rules and permits from the City, we are anticipating being able to start 2021 play with practices of ten people or fewer (including coaches) later this month. Games will follow once the province moves into Phase 2 of reopening.
The delay between lifting of restrictions and beginning of play will allow the league to hire staff, train referees, adjust teams and schedule rinks times. Tentative plans follow:

  • Practices begin week of June 28
  • Teams will practice twice a week for 3 weeks
  • Games will begin week of July 19
  • Season will conclude end of August

We are working to make the schedule match the days and times each age group has played in the past.

Will you play this summer?
CONFIRMATION NEEDED BY SATURDAY, JUNE 12

Despite all the planning and best intentions we realize that not everybody will want or be able to play a schedule running through the summer. If you’re not planning to participate in the summer league as a player or, if you previously volunteered, as a coach, please let us know by Saturday, June 12. This will give the league the time to adjust rosters and search for alternate coaches if necessary. Players who choose not to play will keep their returning player status for the 2022 season. Those who want to opt out should email the league at info@withrowballhockey.net and indicate they would like to “Opt Out for the 2021 Season.” The deadline for Opting Out is June 12, 2021, 11:59 p.m. More details on the league website. No action is necessary if you are planning to play.

Coaches Meeting via Zoom
A Coaches meeting will be held over Zoom about a week prior to each of the practice and game phases. Rules will be reviewed and we’ll provide guidance, including sample practice plans.
We can’t wait to hear the bang of balls off boards and sticks hitting the floor!
